If you're stuck #1....

...get your brain going! Here are some discussion prompts you could use for your posting if you don't have another idea. It could make for some good discussion.

1. The conclusion of the _Lord of the Flies_ has been criticized on the grounds that Golding sacrificed artistic excellence for the sake of a "happy ending." What do you think?

  1. I believe that he didn't finish the book like it should have been finihed and therefor it should be criticized. He kept the readers hanging as to if the kids forgot about the beast or what the kids believed about the beast anymore. Another thing Golding could have changed was clarifying wheather or not all the kids went with the naval officer. Jack and Roger were pretrayed throughout most of the book as wanting to be on the island so some people could believe that some kids chose to stay. That leads into the next part of the ending that didn't satisfy me, the naval officer acted as if he didn't care about what the kids had been going through or what was going on on the island. Ralph didn't have a chance to say how long they were there or that jack's group were savages that killed people. The officer could probably tell that the kids had been there for a while by looking at their appearences but didnt ask any specific questions. The last thing is that the ending would have been better if the good guy,Ralph, didnt survive. By Ralph not dying made the book seem like it was cut short. These are the reasons i believe the ending should have been writtten differently.

  2. I believe it was right for Goldings ending to be critized. I felt like the ending was abrupt and left mant questions unanswered to the reader. It was almost dissapointing because it was like a change in tone form the author. Throughtout the book, Golding wrote in detail and made things interesting but at the endhe gave very little explaination and little deatil to his ending. I still am left wondering if all the boys were saved or if any of the officers really understood what happened on te island. These thingss left me hanging and upset because I didn't understand them. I wish the ending was different
